Michigan
Mental Health Provider Listserv

Guidelines

1. Respect Confidentiality

  • Do not share any identifying client information. You are responsible for what you post.
  • Strongly anonymize any case examples (remove names, locations, ages, and other identifiers) and be specific in your request for consultation (ie topic, type of support needed).
  • Assume that anything shared could be read by unintended audiences—write with discretion.

2. Stay Within Scope

  • This listserv is intended for licensed private practice counselors/therapists and mental health professionals only. All licensing credentials must be verified before a member is admitted, and as such, all messages are intended only for admitted members of this listserv. Do not forward messages from this listserv to people outside of the group.
  • Keep discussions focused on clinical practice, ethics, supervision, professional development, and resources relevant to the mental health field. Use templates provided when applicable (ie when seeking a therapist or service for a client).

3. Be Professional & Respectful

  • Engage with respect and professionalism—even when disagreeing.
  • Avoid inflammatory, political, or discriminatory language.
  • Refrain from sarcasm, ridicule, or personal attacks.

4. One time self-promotion; no additional marketing

  • To be considerate of the group members, all members are asked to promote themself one time upon joining the listserv. Do not request or solicit referrals, but rather share your information to let others know what services you offer. Please include the following information:
    • Full name, credentials
    • Brief description of your area of practice
    • Mental health services you provide (i.e. individual, groups, etc.)
    • Location and options for telehealth (if applicable)
    • Current contact information
  • Beyond your first practice promotion, please do not use the listserv to promote your own practice, books, products, events, or services unless explicitly allowed by the moderators.

5. Use Clear Subject Lines

  • Use descriptive subject lines (e.g., “Seeking CBT resource for adolescent anxiety”) for best results.
  • If changing topics mid-thread, start a new email with a new subject line.

6. Limit Frequency & Volume

  • Be mindful of how often you post, given that all messages go to all members. Avoid sending one-line replies like “Thanks!” or “I agree”.
  • If you are interested in connecting with the writer of a post, email them directly. Please do not “reply all”.

7. No Emergency or Crisis Communication

  • This is not a space for urgent safety-based clinical consultation or crisis response.
  • For time-sensitive or emergency situations, seek appropriate professional channels.

8. Protect List Integrity

  • Do not forward listserv messages.
  • Do not add others to the list or share access credentials.

9. Reporting & Moderation

  • If you see inappropriate content or violations, report them to the list moderators.
  • Repeated violations may result in removal from the listserv.

By participating in this listserv, you agree to abide by these rules to support a safe, ethical, and enriching community for all members.
